Afloat
Short Film
2025
Afloat is a short film exploring how we deal with pain. Produced by my team and directed by my friend Tae Park, Afloat follows Owen, returning home after a failed start in the city, where he finds a pill promising to end his suffering. What follows is a lesson on grief, trauma, and second chances.
The identity of the film centers around the duality that exists in suffering and the fragile nature of trauma. Suffering can lead to pain yet also growth. This is symbolized by motif of two pills and the gritty textures that bring the graphics down to earth.

Exploring Duality
Afloat explores how we deal with pain and the dualities that we maneuver after trauma. The central of which are the two pills. The first promising to erase ones pain, and the second offering salvation from the pain caused by the first one.
This duality is manifested in the identity through two dots, and a bespoke identity for the premiere event that showcased the film.
Pushing past the screen
Afloat extends into other realms past the digital screen. Afloat : The Premiere brought the world of the film to a sold out crowd and demanded it's own bespoke identity. At the film screening, we extended the film into merchandise and a behind the scenes look at the making of the film in a book; Frames from the Set.
